When climate-denying Governor Rick Scott was re-elected in 2014, Oliver decided to act. After college, he was working in a restaurant, earning the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour when he contacted Bernie Sanders’ New Hampshire team, quit his job, and drove north to volunteer for a long-shot presidential campaign. Oliver showed up every day until he was hired—starting as an unpaid volunteer and eventually leading the Portsmouth field office through Sanders’ upset victory in the New Hampshire primary. He went on to organize in states across the country, including Nevada, Kansas, Utah, New York, and Rhode Island. In 2016, Oliver joined a communications firm in Washington, DC and helped unionize it with the NewsGuild-CWA—setting a new standard for how campaign workers should be treated. His work supported the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Senator Sanders’ Our Revolution, and the grassroots effort to pass Florida’s Amendment 4, which restored voting rights to over one million people. While living in Washington, DC during the COVID-19 pandemic, Oliver joined the Democratic Socialists of America, protested for racial justice following the police murder of George Floyd, and experienced the unrest surrounding the January 6th Capitol insurrection. These moments deepened his belief that democracy and civil rights aren’t guaranteed—they must be protected and practiced. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 15, 2025 Deerfield Beach, FL — Oliver Larkin’s campaign for Congress in Florida’s 23rd District announced it raised over $100,000 from more than 1,000 grassroots donors nationwide in its first Federal Election Commission reporting quarter—rivaling the early fundraising pace of leading Democratic and Republican contenders in South Florida without corporate PAC money. “South Floridians can’t afford the skyrocketing costs of housing, healthcare, transportation, groceries, childcare, and education,” said Larkin, a marketing professional and former Democratic campaign staffer. “Families are living in fear amid ICE raids. While our congressman refuses to hold town halls or answer questions, we are in the community—listening, organizing, and building the resources to give voters a stronger choice in 2026.” Larkin is challenging Rep. <h3>Ending Forever Wars</h3>Oliver supports repealing the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), which has enabled endless U.S. military involvement around the world without proper congressional oversight. Then-Rep. Barbara Lee cast the lone vote against it—and she was right. For more than two decades, the U.S. has spent trillions of dollars waging war abroad while stripping civil liberties at home, from Bush-era surveillance to Trump’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids and secret police tactics under the Department of Homeland Security. Even after the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the defense budget continues to grow. Oliver believes it’s time to end the president’s unchecked war powers and redirect resources toward rebuilding here at home.<h3>Israel-Palestine</h3>Oliver agrees with Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the United Nations that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, including the use of starvation tactics. Russia has occupied Ukrainian territory since 2014 and bears full responsibility for the conflict and its massive human cost.Congress and the State Department must subject any U.S. military aid coordinated with the European Union and NATO to rigorous oversight. Foreign Policy

<h3>Medicare for All</h3>The United States is the only high-income country that doesn’t guarantee healthcare as a right—yet we pay more per person than anywhere else. It’s time for Medicare for All. Oliver supports the Medicare for All Act to guarantee healthcare to everyone in the U.S., eliminating copays, premiums, and deductibles. In Florida—one of just 10 states that still hasn’t expanded Medicaid—the need is especially urgent. In Congress, Oliver will fight Republican efforts to cut care and work to expand Medicare to include hearing, vision, and dental coverage. He supports canceling medical debt and investing in mental health, addiction treatment, home care, and elder care rooted in community—not isolation. He stands with nurses, EMTs, and care workers fighting for livable wages and with doctors burdened by debt. A universal system will strengthen unions, support small businesses, and give people the freedom to live healthier, fuller lives—without corporate insurance companies profiting off denied care.<h3>Abortion Rights</h3>Abortion is healthcare and a human right. In Congress, Oliver will be a proud, vocal advocate for reproductive freedom. He supports the Abortion Justice Act and EACH Act to protect and expand abortion access—no matter who you are, where you live, or how much money you make. Oliver opposes all abortion bans. He believes people—not politicians—should make personal healthcare decisions. In states like Florida, extremists are putting lives at risk by delaying care and closing clinics. These bans force people to travel long distances, wait later into pregnancy, or forgo care entirely. Oliver will fight to restore nationwide abortion access, end medically unnecessary restrictions, and reduce maternal and infant deaths. He supports training the next generation of OBGYNs, protecting providers, and expanding access to care—especially in underserved communities. The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate of any wealthy country, with Black women three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes. Oliver knows protecting abortion access is inseparable from fighting for maternal justice, racial justice, and healthcare equity. <h3>LGBTQIA+ Healthcare</h3>Oliver will fight any Republican attempt to restrict LGBTQIA+ healthcare. He supports universal access to gender-affirming care and will stand up to far-right attacks on trans youth, civil rights, and basic dignity. From banning care to shutting down hotlines for trans youth in crisis, extremists are putting lives at risk. Oliver will work to expand access, combat misinformation, and destigmatize LGBTQIA+ healthcare through public education and federal policy.<h3>HIV/AIDS</h3>The U.S. is still living with the consequences of federal inaction during the HIV/AIDS crisis. South Florida remains one of the hardest-hit regions in the country. Oliver believes lifesaving medications like PrEP should be widely available, affordable, and accessible to all. He will oppose any rollback of federal HIV/AIDS programs like PEPFAR and push for congressional oversight of harmful policy decisions. Everyone deserves care—regardless of income, ZIP code, or status.Oliver believes HIV prevention medication PrEP is an essential, lifesaving form of healthcare that should be made widely accessible.<h3>Big Pharma &amp; Drug Policy</h3>Oliver believes we must end Big Pharma’s profiteering by having the federal government manufacture generic prescription drugs at cost—and allow Medicare to negotiate prices across the board. A quarter of Americans can’t afford their medications. That’s unacceptable. Healthcare shouldn’t be driven by profit margins, and public health trust won’t be restored until we hold corporations accountable. He supports legal accountability for the opioid crisis, expanded access to non-addictive pain treatments, and ending the federal prohibition on marijuana. Legalization would create tax revenue, cut into the black market, and allow medical research into promising treatments for epilepsy, PTSD, cancer, and more. Oliver also supports vaccine requirements to prevent deadly outbreaks. He will oppose the appointment of conspiracy theorists like RFK Jr. to public health leadership and use Congress’s oversight power to protect science-based healthcare policy.

Oliver will cosponsor House Medicare for All legislation for zero-cost healthcare guaranteed to all people. Oliver believes healthcare is a human right. Also, small businesses and entrepreneurs need Medicare for All. We need this fundamental freedom to rebuild the economy and reestablish the middle class pathway to the American Dream.

Oliver Larkin Earns Endorsement of Citizens Against AIPAC Corruption

Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for minors under 18, and the U.S. experiences far more mass shootings than any other country in the world.The Second Amendment calls for a “well-regulated militia,” but that is severely lacking in the United States today. Oliver supports an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, red flag laws, mandatory waiting periods, magazine and ammunition restrictions, bans on bump stocks, and the repeal of the gun industry’s special legal immunity from civil liability. He also supports increased federal funding for school safety and community-based gun violence prevention programs. Oliver would back legislation like the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act to hold negligent gun manufacturers accountable—where it matters most: their bottom line. While no law can undo the loss and trauma caused by gun violence, survivors and families deserve their day in court. He believes the Centers for Disease Control must be fully empowered and funded to research gun violence as the public health crisis it is. The National Rifle Association’s grip on American politics is a symptom of a broken campaign finance system. Oliver believes it’s time to put people before profits—and end the influence of gun manufacturers and their lobbyists once and for all.

Gun Safety

<h3>America's Contract with Veterans</h3>Oliver grew up with a deep sense of service and patriotism. His father and both grandfathers served in the U.S. military. His father graduated from college through the Army ROTC program and became a homeowner with a military loan—instilling in Oliver the belief that service to the nation should be met with a pathway to the middle class. Today, that promise is broken for too many veterans and even active-duty service members. Some who fought for this country have been deported instead of offered a pathway from green card to citizenship. Many active-duty, Reserve, and National Guard members rely on SNAP—or don’t qualify because of inadequate housing allowances. Some estimates show that up to one-third of active-duty service members experience hunger, with military families facing food insecurity at more than twice the national average. Many bases are located in high-cost or rural areas where access to affordable food and basic services is limited. Oliver supports raising the military pay scale to ensure service members and their families can live with dignity and stability.<h3>Housing</h3>Oliver will lead efforts in Congress to repeal the failed Military Housing Privatization Initiative. Too many military families live in unsafe housing—infested with mold, pests, and vermin; plagued by structural, electrical, or gas hazards; and under gag orders from private contractors requiring NDAs before repairs are made. In 2021, one military housing contractor paid $65 million in restitution for defrauding the government—just one of many settlements, whistleblower cases, and federal investigations into widespread neglect and abuse. Oliver supports building 500,000 to 1 million new affordable housing units to serve the 3 million people who work with or within the U.S. military.<h3>Mental Health and Suicide Prevention</h3>The United States loses approximately 20 veterans a day to suicide. Since 9/11, more U.S. service members have died by suicide than in combat. Veterans deserve full access to treatment for PTSD, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), chronic pain, disability, and long-term health conditions. Oliver supports reclassifying controlled substances to allow for peer-reviewed research and the safe prescription of treatments—including cannabis and psychedelics—when medically appropriate. <h3>Veterans Affairs</h3>Oliver strongly supports full federal funding for the VA and opposes all efforts to privatize it. His grandfather, a Korean War veteran, dedicated nearly 2,000 volunteer hours at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center—because he believed in the community and care it provided. Oliver believes the VA should remain a specialized agency within a broader Medicare for All system—ensuring veterans receive expert, veteran-specific care while still upholding the original mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs: patriotism, not profit.

<h3>Climate Resiliency for South Florida</h3>Florida’s 23rd District is one of the most vulnerable areas in the country to climate change. From failing pipes and boil water notices to blooms of toxic cyanobacteria (previously known as "blue-green algae") and die-offs of endangered species, our infrastructure and ecosystems are in crisis. Our environment is our economy. Oliver supports federal public investment in sustainable energy and infrastructure to create millions of good-paying jobs, preserve our South Florida community for future generations, and make the U.S. a global leader in sustainable innovation. In Congress, he’ll fight to bring federal resources home to upgrade public infrastructure, restore natural ecosystems, clean our water, and hold polluters accountable. <h4>Public Transportation</h4>Oliver will introduce legislation to purchase 500,000 electric buses nationwide—improving public transit, easing traffic gridlock, and reducing emissions from vehicles. He supports building a national high-speed rail network and securing immediate federal investment in Tri-Rail expansion, including an underground New River tunnel to connect Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties along the Coastal Link line. This plan will ease congestion, reduce emissions, and protect the integrity and walkability of downtown Fort Lauderdale.<h4>Public Utilities</h4>Oliver supports an immediate shift away from fossil fuels, especially in Florida’s fragile ecosystem. He will fight the corrupt influence of utility giants like Florida Power &amp; Light, which has pushed through the largest utility rate hike in U.S. history while bankrolling political campaigns—including his opponent’s. In Congress, Oliver will fight for a national Clean Power Plan to reduce energy costs, decarbonize the grid, and stop private utility monopolies from profiting off our basic needs.<h4>Public Lands</h4>Private sugarcane production in the Everglades Agricultural Area—nearly half a million acres—has devastated Florida’s natural water systems. Meanwhile, 15% of Florida’s land is reserved for cattle and up to 8% for golf courses, which use two-thirds of all recreational water. Oliver will fight to restore Florida’s ecosystems by buying out Big Sugar operations and sending water south from Lake Okeechobee to repair the Everglades, Big Cypress, and Florida Bay. He supports completing the land buyback deal originally negotiated by then-Governor Charlie Crist to restore the Everglades’ flow. He’ll also work to establish a statewide Florida Wildlife Corridor and protect our freshwater aquifers from overdevelopment and pollution.
